Meet Lisa

In her Bay Area California design studio, nestled under towering redwoods, Lisa Staprans creates private and public spaces that are highly functional, quietly luxurious, and express the soul of design. It is also where Lisa fulfills what is most important to her: transforming and healing lives through beauty and intention.

Since 1990, Lisa has been designing for some of the country’s leading families, individuals, and organizations and has developed practices that respect privacy and honor discretion. Holding the clients’ trust is sacred to Lisa Staprans, and is what allows Lisa, and her team, to create sanctuaries that serve as springboards for her clients to go out and do their very best.

On every project, Lisa’s point of departure never waivers: clients tell her how they feel in places that speak most strongly to them, and she finds her way to them. There, walking the site, gaining a deep understanding of the light’s movement, sometimes alone, other times with the project team, Lisa searches for harmony with the environment.

In interiors where they can fully be themselves, in rooms where their days are nuanced and brightened, and in spaces where they are nurtured, Lisa’s clients experience the absolute rightness of being in a particular place, allowing them to feel calmer, happier, and sustain a sense that anything is possible. Behind that, lies Lisa’s dedication to the neuroscience of beauty, and her belief that beauty impacts us at our most uniquely human level. The focus of her design work is rooted in how beauty comes into our brain and body, and creates a response that impacts our well-being, profoundly.

Travel allows Lisa to connect with history, culture, and people. Wherever she is, finding her way to the makers of beautiful things is essential. Hearing their stories, while learning about their techniques and values, leads to ongoing relationships between Lisa and craftspeople around the world. This alignment of products and principles is vital to Lisa, who believes her decisions and actions continually ripple out into the world.

A sought-after speaker, Lisa started her speaking career with a TedTALK in Jaipur, India, presented key note talks with renowned textile and product designer, Lori Weitzner, and participated on panels with luminaries in the fields of design and neuroscience. She is the recipient of numerous awards for her work in her field.

Lisa has participated in 100k ultra-races in some of the most beautiful and remote places in the world, and even completed the 132 mile “Death Ride” in the California Sierras. She also enjoys less extreme outdoor adventures with her husband, sons, daughter-in-law, and dogs along the stream that runs behind her Bay area home.
